Emergency Medicine Department 救急救命学科

What is an Emergency Medical Technician?

Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) are healthcare professionals who provide life-saving emergency care to patients experiencing cardiac arrest, hypoglycemia, or life-threatening shock while transporting them to medical facilities. We train professionals who can calmly and accurately assess situations and provide treatment, regardless of when, where, or who may collapse, making them the frontline of life in emergency scenarios.

Instructor Introduction

Head of the Emergency
Medicine Department
Ken Ishizuka
What I want to convey to everyone aspiring to join the Emergency Medical Services department is that while it’s important to enjoy learning, it’s equally essential to be strict with yourself and to understand the pain of the patients. At this well-equipped institution, I hope to cultivate strong emergency medical technicians who can empathize with patients and also be immediately effective in the field.

Learning Highlights
Comprehensive Public

Service Exam Preparation
We have contracted with SU-HAN for civil service
exam preparation. With 300 hours of focused
training, students benefit from comprehensive
lectures delivered by professional instructors
specializing in civil service exam preparation,
along with attentive support tailored to each
student, helping them break through
the narrow gate to becoming civil servants.
Building up practical

training based on various

situations and scenarios.
Students will reliably acquire advanced skills
through over 1,000 hours of practical training.
By conducting training that is more aligned with
real-world scenarios and situations, we
emphasize the development of individuals who
can be immediately effective in the field.
Aiming for an emergency

medical technician license in

as two years.
To obtain the qualification, one must spend four
years at university or engage in emergency
services for more than five years after being hired
as a firefighter, with over 2,000 hours of
emergency response time (calculated at 90
minutes per emergency call). At this institution,
students can aim to achieve this qualification in
two years.
High-level skills that achieve

excellent results even in national

championships where students

from across the country compete.
In the 'Minami-Nippon Student Emergency
Medical Technology Championship,
' where students aiming to become emergency
medical technicians compete in skills and
knowledge, we achieved overall rankings of 3rd
place or higher in the 3rd to 7th championships,
and won 1st place in the 7th championship.
In the 8th championship, we secured 2nd place
and represented the Minami-Nippon region at
the National Emergency Medical Technology
Championship.
By studying anatomy, pathology, and symptomatology and gaining practical experience through hands-on training, students will deepen their knowledge of emergency disease management and emergency symptomatology while engaging in training that includes 'specified actions' related to emergency medical procedures. Additionally, starting in the second half of the program, we will conduct civil service exam preparation simultaneously, dedicating about a year to this preparation by the end of the first half of the two-year program.
More comprehensive practical training and exam preparation. Students will learn practical skills through on-site training at hospitals and fire departments, and will also engage in preparation for civil service exams and national qualification exams as they approach the actual tests.

designated procedures for
cardiac arrest patients.
Comprehensive simulation training is conducted to ensure that paramedics can accurately perform procedures for patients in cardiac arrest under the direction of a physician.
airway management using equipment
We will ensure that artificial ventilation can be performed effectively using devices such as laryngeal tubes and endotracheal tubes approved in 2004.
administration of glucose solution to patients with hypoglycemia.
When a patient with a history of diabetes experiences a hypoglycemic episode, paramedics will administer a glucose solution. In this process, they will measure blood sugar levels and, if necessary, establish intravenous access before proceeding with the administration, so they will learn this entire sequence in training.
epinephrine administration
In training, we will administer adrenaline (a cardiac stimulant) to patients in cardiac arrest and attempt to restore their heartbeat.
delivery assistance
We will receive lectures from qualified professional midwives and conduct delivery assistance training that connects both the new life and the life of the mother who brings forth that new life in response to emergency childbirth requests.
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training course
We will conduct CPR training courses and EpiPen training for local residents and school staff as part of our community contribution activities to expand the circle of life-saving efforts.
volunteer participation
We participate as a first aid team in the local marathon, providing first aid to runners and serving as a mobile AED unit. We utilize the knowledge we learn daily to ensure the safety of the runners.
